SBC Alloy rockers

Hi,

I have just done a site search for the above and read all the posts on the 20 odd pages it produced, followed all the suggested links and still can't find what I'm looking for.

I want some polished, finned alloy rocker covers, preferably with 'Cobra' cast in the fins (like the 'Cobra powered by Ford' ones but without the 'powered by Ford' bit obviously) anyone got any pointers?

The present items are chrome Edelbrock scripted items and are total crap - I've seen better plating on a Dinky toy.

All help gratefully received.

Jeremy

You won't find covers to fit the Chevy with Cobra written on them. The Cobra ones are only made to fit the small block Ford Windsor engines and the Big block series Fords.

https://www.europaspares.com/ENGINE_...OBRA_1487.html

Not sure how you would get them to fit really.

Craig.

You could always use more Edelbrock ones.

I have the tall Elite series rocker covers and round air cleaner on my car. Nicely made in cast aluminium.

if you still want the cobra script in the middle, (Im guessing that there arent any made fo chevys as most of these covers are made for/ by stateside companies and the attitude to chevys in cob replicas over there is fairly extreme LOL) then you could buy some plain ally chev covers, and some sechand cobra finned ones, cut the finned logo'd tops off and get them welded to the plain covers; a lot of work, but maybe the only way?
Of course with that out of the way youd only have to move the distributor to the front

Oh yes you will! These are Chevy ones that I didn't use on my car and sold a few months ago. I bought them from the late Jim Blackburn years ago; I don't think his company still exists (American Speed something).

Another thought is to buy a cast cover with a flat area on to and get it engraved "COBRA". Not quite the same but looks pretty good; we did Vauxhall onto a pair of RV8 covers years ago and it certainly raised a few questions!

Failing the above, a pair of period Corvette ones look great; not authentic of course but certainly the right look. The rather grubby ones on my car are early Edelbrock, powerdercoated and with a Cobra badge added. If you machined the central area out you might fit the rectangular "Powered by Frod" badge on there if you felt so inclined.

Cobra Rocker Covers

Try Jim at JRV8 (www.jrv8.co.uk) - he supplied them with a conversion kit for my Rover so may know someone who does a similar conversion kit for a Chevy. As you can see in picture, they're pretty convincing, even on a 3.5 V8.

Cheers
Andy

Andy,
Those are exactly the beasties I'm looking for. I have emailed Jim - thanks for the tip. By the way, where did you get that stunning looking radiator cap?
Thanks
Jeremy

I have a set of alloy finned covers with "Cobra Le Mans" cast on them
they're Top Banana!! on my 383 Chevy.
I bought them second hand a good while back from the forum classifieds.
I believe they were cast by someone at Ford.
Beyond that I can't really help.

Getting hold of the Cobra rocker covers is not too difficult. My link earlier to Europa are the correct ones.

It cant be that difficult to get adaptors made. All you need is the gaskets from each one and you will have the profiles required. Any machine shop should be able to cut a set out from sheet steel or aluminium.

Craig.
