Fuel Pump adapters fitting.

Here the next one to ponder.

Fitted my fuel pump NPT to JIC adpaters today, these appear to do up so far then go tight. The adpater is not all the way in with about 3-4 threads showing. Does this sound right? Pump is an Edelbrock item. Ill try to get some picture tommorrow night.

Cheers for any advice an pics.

NPT has a taper thread form. The fitting may well have be as far as it will go.

Andy,

Sounds the same as my 351W fuel pump fittings.

If they don't leak, they are in far enough. Sorry - only simple way I could think to check!

Cheers gents. twas hoping to understand if they were likely to leak before going for the ultimate test!!

Here are a couple of pics, how does it look?

Do this type of threads need any sealing tape of locite thread sealer?

This also leads on to my next post, look out for has anyone rotated an Edelbrock pump body before!

Cheers

Yes you must you PTFE tape or they will leak.

Yes you can also rotate the fuel pump body,I will probably have to fit one on Sat on V8 BJC Dax.

Why are you using those fittings?? I used 3/8 npt adaptors with -6 fuel hose. Or you could have bought 90 degree 3/8 npt fitting and then use a straight fitting if space is tight.

Andy,

Without pre-empting your post about rotating your edelbrock fuel pump; my fuel pump is a mechanical Holley & not only did I have to rotate it but I also had to tap the blank flange holes to get the optimum position for the fuel inlet & outlet fittings. However this probably wont apply to your setup as we have different chassis configurations.

FYI, (if your not already aware) although my pump was installed on the block it was not used as it is not required for dyno testing as dyno rigs have an onboard fuel pump, (if you install it dont forget to put some molly on the fuel pump actuation arm to lubricate it during intitial start).

Regards,
Martyn

Using those fittings so I can get the 90° bend pointing exactly where I want it. With a npt to jic 90° fitting the angle of the fitting is determined by where the fitting snugs up in the pim. My way means I can set the 90° whereever I want it. (well thats my logic!).

Do you think Loctite thread sealer will work instread of PTFE?

Hi Andy

The spec for Loctite 577 says it's safe to use with unleaded petrol.
I have read posts on here warning against PTFE as it's not designed for use with petrol, I know you can get tape to use with gas but not sure about petrol.

HTH Stu.
