Wiring for first engine start

Hi

I am busily working towards the initial start of my Rover 3.5 engine in a GD Chassis. Can someone advise me on the basic wiring I need to do in order to fire the engine up for the first time. I just want the basics so I can test the engine. I guess I will need to wire some gauges and warning lights, but I thought I could do a temporary wiring job for this stage, and then when I was sure everything was OK, do a permanent job with the proper wiring harness from GD. Does that make sense? Can anyone advise please. Diagrams and pictures would be a bonus!!!

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,
when i wired up my RV8 for the first start i used the following.
Oil Pressure gauge
Oil pressure warning light
Oil Temp gauge
Water temp gauge
Rev counter
Cooling fans
Alternator and charge light

Hope that helps.
I might still have a drawing kicking about if you want. Pm me your email.

Cheers
Jim

You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.

When you make the connections to the battery, use a couple of mole grips. This will allow rapid disconnection if required - could save your starter motor/cam/lifters etc.
