Ordered the expensive Iridium ones now. Don't mind spending a bit more if they work.

I have tried various different types in my Range Rovers over the years and have never really noticed any huge difference. You seem to get an initial change in performance with new plugs but then I guess that is to be expected.

Cheers

Craig.

You should get a cleaner burn and they will last you the life of the Cobra now depending on the amount of mileage you do. The one thing that cleaned up the running on mine was an MSD 6AL - definate improvement in the low to mid range.

All the best
Mike

The amount of miles I do they should last my lifetime too!

If I decide to go fuel injected one day I will be looking at upgrading the distributor as well.

That would be a programmable MSD billet jobby then that you dont have to piss about with spring changes and allen keys up the vacuum snout then.

Are you running a very radical cam, unless you are there is a lot of mileage in getting a carb tuned well for the engine. Will never be as good as PI, but for the cost difference the benefits other than settling out a wild cam at tickover and gas mileage can be minimal. Also when you get it budget for up to 2 days mapping on a rig to really get it right.

Just come back from getting my hair done and I found somebody (the stylist) who could remember Duran Duran and Japan - fantasised a little and now back down to earth. Honestly its worth getting your hair cut for the shampoo stage there - almost illegal it is.

Regards

Mike

I'm willing to try anything.

If I find the expensive ones work well, I will stick with them but I won't know until I try them. If I find no improvement then I will get the cheaper ones next time.

I confuse myself sometimes!

Craig.

Hey up Dave - how ya doing. Did you sort out the carb issue?

Temperature in Yorkshire has gone up 15 degrees in about 2 hours and the bees have started buzzing about - summers on its way - or is it summats on its way?

Also spent the last 2 weeks putting the revised de dion front end on the cobra which gives much more castor - not much fun I have to say - preferred the haircut.

Are you going to Stoneleigh?

Mike

Hello M8.

Sounds like you have lost the plot too!!

I'm good, my carb was full of swaf! Cleaned it out, took it to tim's and he retested it on one of his motors, it was alittle lean off throttle so he fitted a smaller idle air bleed. I will retest it on my car,but won't hold my breath!
I bought a 2nd carb, 750 speed demon with vac sec and it gave a much nicer fuel curve so I think I will use that one instead.

Yes I will be at stoneleigh, need to get my finger out and refit my exhausts, see your there if your going!

Hi Craig
Your experience sounds similar to mine - check your fuel filter. My fuel filter housing had about 1/3rd rusty water in it when I took it off!

If you do find water in the fuel filter housing, you'll need to siphon from the very bottom of your fuel tank into a buck and see what comes out. There is no need to drain the tank! Water is heavier than fuel, so just need to make sure the siphon tube is firm enough and long enough to assure you it's at the lowest point in the tank. I't normal for there to be a little bit of water in the tank - However, I got a good few mugfulls of mucky looking water out, before it started to suck out "straight fuel". Obviously, if you did have some water in there, you'll need a couple of new fuel filter elements. Do one change, run the car for a while and then inspect again. If you're unlucky like me, you'll need to swap the fuel filter again.
