Barts Elephant? Like the Simpsons do we?

Thanks for that. I am currently changing my fuel filter for a much bigger one which will hopefully collect water in the bottom. The dax tank has a sump on it so I guess any water that got in there would be first to go out the inlet to the engine.

I will let you know what I find in the filter when I get the old one off.

Cheers

Craig.

I now seem to have a similar problem, took my car for a MOT today, drove 33miles to the test centre car drives lovely, after the MOT test going back home it was driving like a bag of shit/sprodically misfiring on both banks, cutting out etc, felt like a coil braking down or a HT lead/damp dissy cap? I spent all day trying to find the fault, but everything seams to be ok. All afternoon it's been like this, but I went out for a drive 15mins ago and now drives ok! I bloody give up! I will check my fuel filter tomorrow.

Glad I'm not the only one David.

If I find any evidence of what may have caused my problems I will let you know. So far I replaced the plugs, cleaned the distributor cap, and am in the process of replacing the fuel filter.

Nothing too obvious yet though and I think today was too warm for carb icing.

Craig.

Craig,

Never mind cleaning the distributor cap, replace it and the rotor arm.

Bit busy today for the Grasshopper meet.

Spent yesterday welding new catalytic converters into my Dads Range Rover and fitting a new system to the rest of it. Didn't quite get it finished and found a bloody coolant leak as well. Decided to replace the Land Rover centre silencer which is the size of a small country, with a Cherry bomb. Sounds lovely and not at all noisy. Quite a surprise really as I thought it would be ridiculously loud.

A new distributor cap and arm is on my next shopping list. I want to get one of the MSD caps and higher output coils but can't find them in this country. I will wait until I get an order together for Summit and get one then.

Cheers

Craig.

The rotor arm in the photos you posted looked like nothing I have seen before, but it is important to get the right rotor arm for a distributor with vacuum advance/retard if that is what you have. I once got the wrong rotor for my Mallory and it didn't run right. The shape of the rotor tip is different.

Hi Craig,
One other thing springs to mind. Is your fuel tank venting OK? If not you might be getting a vacuum in the tank causing fuel flow problems.

Hi Craig, Whats happening I have developed a bit of a misfire on my rover 3.5 engine, It was ok till I fitted the new jets JRV8 sent me. although it was running very rich before I changed the jets. I took it for a run and found the tick over was a bit high once the engine had warmed up, I made some adjustments to the air Idle screws and this sorted the high tick over, I also noticed one of the leads had dropped on to the exhaust. No thing but a brown scorch to the cable so I clipped it back in to place and off I went again to test it out. Fine when accelerating hard, but at cruise it misses and judder's. I have recently replaced the cap and rotor arm and plugs (Bosch super 4 WR7 Got fed up with it last night, so I put it to bed and started again this morning. I did find the condenser very loose and rattling about on the side of the dissy, dont know if this has any think to do with the problem? went to halfrauds and they don't stock them nor do the local motor factors. Should I replace it or just refit it and see what happens? weather has gone crap this afternoon so I might just see if I can get one from some were this week.

Regards Russ

Loose condenser won't help at all.

Replace it if you can find one but if not just screw it back down and see if helps the problem.

Seems to be the season for rough engines.

Craig.
