Thanks again for all the replies to this thread.

I have now finished fitting £150's worth of new fuel filter and piping to my car. It's amazing how a few metres of braided pipe and aluminium end fittings add up.

Anyway, Removed the old fuel filter which was one of those hated glass body filters that was placed before the pump. It was full of fuel when I removed it and I expected it to run out. It didn't and required compressed air to blow the fuel out. It was definitely blocked!
I cleaned it anyway and tried blowing through it and it still seemed horribly restrictive.

I fitted the new Fram fuel filter and plumbed it all in using spedflow braided steel hose and aluminium hose ends. After turning the ignition on I thought it wasn't working as the pump seemed to be twice as noisy and running twice as fast as before. I disconnected the pipe from the carb to see what was happening and when I turned the ignition back on I found out how far a stream of petrol can go!

Moral of the story is, Use those glass filters on your lawn mowers only. Not fit for anything else.

If we get a dry day over the weekend I will give it a blast.

Cheers

Craig.

I'm more and more tempted to get an EFI kit for it though. I guess these don't suffer from icing?

I know EFI has been considered "gay" but I already have a Dax with a Chevy and cream leather interior. If it's going to be gay, It may as well be 100% Gay!

Craig.
It's only Pete who thinks EFI is GayFI Craig. Go for it. Reduced emissions, Smoother running, better fuel consumption.... etc

Hopefully will start my engine fot the first time this weekend with EFI fitted!

Mind you if it doesn't start I won't let Pete know. I'll never hear the last of it

To Late Nobby, I've read the post.

I'm back in Blighty on Saturday, I'll be round to watch the proceedings. (I'll bring some spuds to throw on the fire )

Pete

Bitch.....

You'll be jet lagged out of your mind wont you? I was last weekend and time difference was only 5 hours. Las Vegas is more like 7 hours behind?

Still you can hold the fire extinguisher if you like

Just a word of advise.

If you use braided steel tubing and decide to cut it with a thin disc grinder make sure you clear out the pipe afterwards.

I made it to my friends house fine today but then when I went to re-start it, It didn't want to fire.

After removing the air cleaner I could see too much fuel running down the barrels. Luckily my friend has a well equipped work shop so we took the top off the carb and found rubber residue in the float chambers and in the needle valves. Once cleaned it started fine and drove home well.
I will check again tomorrow night to see if any more has made it through.

Runs very nicely now with the new fuel filter and spark plugs. Seems a lot smoother with more progressive power.

Craig.

Thanks for that. I am currently changing my fuel filter for a much bigger one which will hopefully collect water in the bottom. The dax tank has a sump on it so I guess any water that got in there would be first to go out the inlet to the engine.

I will let you know what I find in the filter when I get the old one off.

Cheers

Craig.

Fuel filter ? ........... I don't believe I have one of them!

You serious Paul?

You should have a filter pre-pump to protect it from any dirt that may come from the forecourt tanks.

If Dave built the car it will have a filter. Maybe he will post here and let you know where it is.

Craig.
