Rover v8 Exhaust manifolds

One of the exhaust manifolds on my Rover v8 Mk3 sumo has broken. I am considering welding it, but also considering what options are availiable to replace them.

Anybody recommend a supplier for a set of new exhaust manifolds (Rover v8 with side pipes)?

Thanks in anticipation,

Graham

Hi Graham
I'd send a PM to Chimera (Anthony), he was selling sidepipes and fitting them to Sumo's. He's based in Taunton and builds Sumo's for a living.
Cheers Stu.

I've seen Antony's sidepipes and very nice they are too. Also try Gwaks place, sidepipes as they're of good quality as well.

Hey Graham
Before you go and spend ££££ on new manifolds, have you considered why they broke.
The standard engine mounts are considered to be too soft and allow alot of engine rock. These may need to be replaced with stiffer ones. Also, how are the exhausts mounted, this again may contribute to failures of the welds on the manifold.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Jim,

You are absolutly right, am looking to replace the engine mounts at the same time. I also intend to add additional support to the side pipes and also considering additional support to prevent the motor twisting under heavy acceleration.

I am convinced having seen the inside of both the Pilgrim Manifold and the side pipes that this system is very restrictive, so am eventually going to replace the manifold and the baffels in the side pipes. (I always thought that the car should have gone better than it does, so this probably explains quite a bit.

Graham

Just a thought but you might want less support. The pipes will always want to move a little and so should be able to. They can be mounted on rubber bobbins to allow them to flex rather than snap, also some people only support them at the back.

I have a section of flexible exhaust pipe between the headers and the side pipes, side pipes mounted on rubber bobbins and stiff engine mounts (land rover ones). No problems so far.

cheers

G

If you are familiar with the Dax set up....single rubber mounting at the rear of the sidepipe, I have the same set up my AK and, so far, no problems. You can mount exhaust system too rigidly.....
