Stumbled across this tonight... had no idea you could glean SO much from the plugs...

Interesting read, but my advice is ignore it unless you are tuning the moggy.

Two problems on the Cob is that they go out on too many short runs and many are tuned with open plenum inlets and high initial advance etc to compensate for a low pulse with long overlaps etc etc etc.

My plugs are always slightly black in colour and I have never had them tan - the engine was set up on a rig and is right for the cam and set up.

This is old info, and sadly not relevant if you are running unleaded fuel, you just cant read plugs on unleaded the same.

I agree with Mike, my plugs are all different colours esp at idle with different runners on the intake.
