You're been working in the trade for 18 years and you're very accustomed to working on V8s. This, however, is the first V8 I've done any real work on. My previous experience (in terms of top-end tear-downs) have all been with 4-pot engines, so I have no real frame of reference.

What may seem obvious to you, isn't to me, hence the reason for this thread.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, but I just took the 'proper tools' comment as a bit out of hand. You probably thought I was being a bit of a numpty, but years ago when you first started, you were probably in the same boat!

Cheers,
Ian.
Ian, don't take things soooo seriously. You will learn the ways of the guys on here. There is normally nothing malicious, but more to start some camaraderie and get to know you.
Clarkson can be a little direct as can most people but don't take offence otherwise the guys in the know will not bother with you.

Wilf has a very good point and hopefully you will be able to part with information in the future and take the P...

Good luck.

Remember all the info here is for free. Try talking to a Corvette dealer and see how many fingers he puts up!!

Sorted my pipework and now waiting for my mate to get back from holiday so I can strike a deal on his BBlock heads. Been looking at a new intake which I will swap, when I re-lube my cam, and maybe the heads at the same time.

Going to drop the gearbox back out so I can double check a few things and mod the release arm.

Sorry Ian, sometimes it seems as though we are being taken for granted - if you want our knowledge, be prepared to put up with our "little ways" as well. It is not as if we are particularly difficult, nor offensive. If you can't do that, then I for one will help you no further. Can't speak for others, just how I feel.

You are the one that needs us, not the other way around. You are quite right, you don't want to get into a pissing contest - not while you need us it seems. Once you have solved your problem, how often will we see you contributing here and helping others?
Wilf,

I'm more than happy to help anyone. On here, or anywhere else. I don't think it's a question of being 'taken for granted' at all... I'm always more than grateful for help and advice and I've always made a point of thanking those that give it. Sometimes, it's easy to get the 'wrong end of the stick' on forums and via Instant Messaging and maybe that's what took place when Clarkson made his contribution. I'm not offended, I just responded in kind. I don't mind anyone talking to me anyway they want, as long as they can take it in return.

I don't have any 'expectation' for people to help me and I don't mind if anyone prefers not to! I appreciate your knowledge and others, but sometimes I feel that 'those in the know' lord it over those that are not so 'in the know'. However, that trait certainly isn't specific to this forum! I'm not pointing the finger at you or Clarkson, either; just a general comment.

Yes, maybe I need to lighten-up and not take certain comments to heart, but, in mitigation, my Mother is in hospital right now and I'm under a certain amount of stress. Sometimes, that results in a short fuse or an antsy attitude. If any of you are ever passing through Northampton, I'd be more than happy to buy you a beer and have a chat about Cobras (the girlfriend just doesn't understand why I'd want to drive around in a noisy, windy, scary, gas guzzler!)

To conclude, I appreciate everyone's advice and I'm more than happy to give my own advice wherever I can, if it means helping someone out. I'll try not to take comments too seriously and I'll buy myself some 'proper tools'! 5/8" 1/2" drive socket and breaker bar

Cheers,
Ian.

Yea, I need to lighten-up sometimes (not the first time I've been told that!)

I own a Corvette (did have a C5, now own a lightly-modded C6)... haven't had reason to get involved with the dealer, thankfully!

Cheers,
Ian.

My Son had a toy steering wheel which he used to spin furiously, making loads of go-faster noises, leaning into all the tight corners, perhaps running the government feels a bit like that. You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere.
