Ive just done the fuel supply test suggested in an earlier reply and the pump produced about a 1/2 litre in a minute which is well below what the poster expected.
I have a Facet fuel pump which is about the size and shape of a coil so Ive decided to replace it with a new one. I couldnt see any filters between fuel tank and pump so assume its in the pump itself
Will post results
Chris.
Do yourself a favour and replace it with a Carter. They are only £50ish from most suppliers 72 GPH and easily cleanable Some say they are noisy, but once the engine fires you can't hear them!!

Thanks for this but unfortunately I spent the whole of yesterday installing a Facet Red Top. She runs a little better but the problem hasnt entirely gone but it now takes a little longer for the coughing and spluttering to occur

I did the flow test after install from the pump outlet and still pretty low so if there is a blockage it must be between the fuel tank and the pump but to get access I think I will have to take it to a garage to get it up high as I cant see where there would be a filter between tank & pump.

Having been Mondeo/A4 owner for the past umpteen years Id forgotten how much fun spending money, tinkering under bonnets, getting metal splinters and cracked knuckles can be....not

Are you doing the flow test before or after the filter king? Try doing it before and after to see if it makes a difference.

The filter king is also a pressure regulator so I was wondering if the pressure has been cranked right down.

Maybe you could also do a test straight out the pump with a spare bit of hose on the outlet. At least you would have a better idea where the blockage is then.

Craig.

Yes I did the test directly from the pump (see last post) but not much difference

Not sure what kind of tank and pick up pipe you have, but I had a problem with my Dax one.
The gauze/plastic filter on the end of the pick up pipe had worked it's way up the pipe, blocking it off quite a bit.
Took it out, cut the fuel pipe at 45 deg so the fliter can only slide up so far and not restrict the flow.
I think my tank was an MG one with the pick up and sender all together in the side.

Sorry Chris, I missed that bit in your previous post.

It should be fairly easy to see any filters if you can get the car up in the air on a ramp. It could also be a pickup pipe problem in the tank as Neil suggested.

Good luck sorting it out.

Craig.
