Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer
In my opinion it would be a good move to get the missing bit out. Make sure you keep the broken dip stick so that when you get the replacement you can compare the two to make sure the full mark on the replacement is in the same place as they are not always. HTH

I would try knocking the broken bit into the sump if it is stuck in the dipstick tube then drain the oil and go fishing with a magnet on a stick through the drain plug hole.
You may get lucky and get hold of it without removing the sump.

Polishes to date = On hold.
The easiest way is too stick some strong Neodymium Magnets on the sum until a future date when you have other jobs to do, or put a magnetic drain plug in.
tHANKS jOHN ORDERED SOME neodymium MAGNETS ,WILL TRY !!
have a better thought..... can you not use a telescopic pen/pickup magnet?

If you can hold one in the drain hole, use another to drag the peice to the hole, that should get it out. john
