If I can find any mesh I reckon I can turn a small recess in the bottom of the trumpets, cut out a circle of mesh and trap in place.
I'll let you know if I find any mesh, In polished stainless off course. I'm trying to bling my engine bay even more! Trumpets came off tonight for a spin in the lathe against a polishing cloth!

Craig.
Get the mesh done and I'll test them on the dyno with my engine.

Ahh, good plan. We can compare before and after then.

Maybe we could then chuck a handful of fine dust down the intakes and see if that has any effect on power output!

Craig.

That's a bloody great idea, we can see how long the rings and valve seats will really last.

Actually I can see your plan here.....

Lend me your ram pipes to bolt on my engine while you test mine as you know when they are returned they will be a mirror finish... I can see what you are planning here.....

Dave, if you don't want a bling underbonnet look then you could always swap your shiny trumpets for some carbon fibre ones..................if you know anyone who has a set

How fat is your snake?
I wish (see missing parts thread) There are the old fashioned pig iron. I'm looking for a lighter option but with the credit crunch etc the cost is looking a little too much. The titanium ones I had my eye on are around £2000 mark. They are 60% lighter but I'm not sure I can quite justify that at the moment.

I guess it would be cheaper and better for me to just stop eating quite so much.

I have been finding hard to replace some of the light weight parts and the standard heavy alternatives just kill me to fit.

Do you have a set of callipers? If so can you try to measure the diameter of the wire and the size of the holes in the mesh filters please. I want to buy some to do my own throttle bodies with but don't know what size to go for.

Cheers

Craig.
Sorry - only just seen this Craig

The mesh is close to a filter in terms of performance according to TWM. Its a bit weird, but it feels like two very fine meshes over each other that leaves a lattice that is I guess much less than 1 mm but. The wire is so fine as are the holes that it would be vertually impossible to get the diameter - close to a strand on a 5 amp wire I'd say but in stainless steel.

The mesh that is used inside the bodies is not a filter but a stone guard as they can not get the surface area in there - shame because it looks good, but its neither use nor ornament - certainly wont filter anything out that will cause the abraision.

Its not the dust that worries me, it the sand that sometimes blows over from the Sahara in summer which happens more and more now. I dont know whether you remember the particularly bad summer about 10 years ago. I screwed up a highly tuned pinto engine running with Webers and open trumpets. The sand particles were that abraisive it gave me piston slap. I needed a re sleeve on an engine that had only done 10000 mls because I was already at 60 thou. Cand decide whether I am prepared to rebuild every 10,000 mls.

Speak to you soon

Mike
