Trouble sealing Kenlowe fan sender

Hi folks. I've got a kenlowe fan fitted (not exactly sure what type but has two adjusters, one down near the rad and one near the top of the engine with a thin (1mm) copper pipe going to a probe which is tucked down the side of the top hose into the water stream and sealed (in theory) with the jubilee clip around the top hose. Trouble is, I can't get it sealed - when the engine is cooling down I can hear tiny amounts of air being drawn in around the jubilee clip and this results over time in an air lock in the cooling system which has to be bled out. I've tried using black RTV and making sure the jubilee is damn tight etc etc but not really getting much joy.

Can anyone offer any advice on this one? Alternative sender perhaps - one that doesnt have to go in the pipe like this?

Thanks

Do you have the little arc of rubber that seals the capillary tube as it goes under the hose? Probably won't seal without it.

Aha! No, I don't have this. Do you know where I'd get one?

If you mean the wedge-shaped piece of rubber for £1.22p, that's the one.

I hope you haven't squashed the capillary tube flat by over-tightening the hose clip.
