Stalls when I brake hard!?

Er I've got a new, weird, problem, if I brake hard, the engine stalls. (Pilgrim mk2 with 2.8 granada, carb, manual box) Idle sounds fine, & doesnt change if I'm stationary and put my foot on the brake. Nothing changes in terms of engine rpms etc for medium & light braking but hard/emergency braking (even with my foot on the clutch before starting to brake) it just stalls. Restarting isnt a problem.

Not sure how long I've had the problem for as I tend not to do hard braking - only noticed it as I've got an issue I think with a caliper on the front - it pulls to one side.

float level in the carb perhaps?

I am with Lloyd on this one float level to high flooding when at idle and braking. used to be a big problem on the old Datsun 240Zs.

My Edelbrock 4 barrel carb used to do that on my Chevy and it was seriously rich when trying to re-start it showing it was flooding.
I checked the float levels according to the manual and they were fine. Common opinion at the time seemed to be that is a feature of the Edelbrock carb.

My solution was to spend thousands of pounds and put EFI on the engine!

I had the same problem and like the others said the float level is the prime suspect, but you might also try to stiffen the front end ( if you have adjustable dampers ).
If this does not help you might check the fuel pressure ( needs to be around 5,5 psi at least with edelbrock carbs ).

Yours sincerely,

GB
