David (Clarkson) ..shoot the mesenger... always works for me!

Frank,David(Cliffords) will av a looook. The system is Msd dizzy/blaster coil and 6AL ignition with rev limiter at 6k( only bounced the limiter once ). Never been out in the wet so should be good after only 1300 miles in a couple of months but you never know until you check. Idle does not change wether in gear or not.

Who ever is responsible for saying that a kit car is never finished should be shot! mumble, natter, groan, grind teeth, #@/><! I realy would love to drive it without repairing/exchanging/upgrading it in this gorgeous weather every couple of hundred miles

Don't know if any of your suggestions have answered this ,but what causes the Kangaroo'ing at slower speeds as I also have a similar problem at times.

The mechanical advance/retard mechanism on MSD distributors is prone to seizure - usually in the fully advanced position. This gives the kind of driving characteristics being described here.

Whip off the rotor arm assembly and see if it is free/are there any signs of rust (yes, rust). Quick spray with WD40, waggle it all about (technical term) and Robert is your father's brother.

I also had the situation that the idle went ~200rpm up when the engine was hot. I found the source by accident when I changed the throttle retainer spring for stronger double one. I think the old single one eased a bit when it got hot above the engine and so the throttle did not close completely.
Since a new retainer spring costs around 12€, it might be worth a try changing it.

Yours sincerely,

GB

Thanks Wilf, i will have a look although i would have thought it's a bit too new to have rusted (when have i thought that before and been wrong!) and thanks ghost bear i already have a double but maybe they've gone "soft" so will check them as well.

Been busy lately so very little time been available to play and tinker but will have more time on my hands at the end of the month.

ps the new improved dash is almost finished

Thanks for your help and suggestions everyone.
