Unleaded

I guess a standard P6 3.5 rover engine can`t be run on unleaded
Right or wrong?

If not is it just a case of changing the valve seats or save the hassle and change for aftermarket heads (bigger valves etc)?

All thoughts appreciated

Just a thought

Russ will correct me if I'm wrong but I run my 3.5 on unleaded with no problems.i was led to believe the rover heads had hard valve seats from years back.

RE: Unleaded

P6 engine WILL run on unleaded or super unleaded BUT because comp ratio is 10.5 it will need the ignition timing retarding slightly. Valve seats are not the issue here - detonation/pinking is.

RE: Unleaded

I see

Thanks Russ

Another quickie - Can the "rope" crank seals on a P6 be upgraded to more modern types?
Is there a kit or something or does it involve machining?

Just a thought

RE: Unleaded

Paul,

No, sorry they can't - or not without re-machining the rear of the block and rear cap. I know it's a bit late now but the P6 block isn't really the best place to start if building a Rover engine. Having said that the rope seal is not really a problem if installed properly - if you can get it not to leak from the start then it shouldn't for 100,00 miles!

RE: Unleaded

Thanks again Russ

I`m just doing my homework before I start collecting bits and pieces.Looks like I should be searching for an SD1 rather than P6 engine then.
