which coil ?

My 3.5 came complete except for the coil. I have the ballast resistor and the 35DE8 distributor.

All the connection blocks etc seem to match up with the haynes manual but I am still a bit concerned as to how I should connect the lot up.

Will any coil from Halfords do ?

Steve

Re: which coil ?

Use any 12v coil and throw away the ballast resistor as they are nothing but trouble. No need for any sort of special coil unless you intend to upgrade your distributor.

Re: which coil ?

Martin,
Is it really that simple?
When I first put my car on the road it would drive well for about 10-20 mins then start misfiring and eventually stop. Add 1 ballast resistor and the problem disappeared.

Re: which coil ?

Hi David, If all you did was to add a ballast resistor than your problem was in that you were using the wrong voltage coil ! and as it got hot ( too higher voltage applied to it ) it would start to break down. As long as the coil is a 12v coil it is a much better idea to simply get rid of the ballast resistor. IMHO :thumb:

Re: which coil ?

David, as Martin said you were/ are probably running a 6 volt coil not 12v.
This would over heat after a while on 12v, hence the need for a ballast resistor.
Just fit a 12v coil and no ballast. :thumb:
