Levelling Plate for Carb ?

I am about to order a Weber 500/Edlebrock Carb and offenhauser manifold.

Do I need to include the levelling plate? I am sitting the RV8 in a Sumo chassis.

Steve

RE: Levelling Plate for Carb ?

I would get one if I were you Steve. I have the same setup in my Sumo and without a levelling plate the car would struggle to start at times. It would also struggle over a certain (not to be mentioned) speed.

Since fiting one in mine, the car starts easier and runs better.

Cheers,
Tony B

RE: Levelling Plate for Carb ?

Tony

Real Steel do different angles for the leveling plates. Which one did you use as I'm also going to have the same setup in my Sumo?
Have you any photos of your engine bay showing the breathing and cooling pipework? Which size of air filter fits under the bonnet 2 or 3 inch?

Sorry about all the questions but I have yet to take delivery, 9th June. Still plenty of work to do on the running gear!!!

Cheers
Stuart

RE: Levelling Plate for Carb ?

I went for the 5 degree plate. This seems to be the most common and it worked for me.

I can send a photo later of the breathing and pipework, no problems there.

As for air filter, I have a 2 inch filter but a 3 inch would also fit. I think I'll get a 3 inch when I replace the one that is there.

Cheers,
Tony B

RE: Levelling Plate for Carb ?

Stuart,

why worry about wether you need a carb leveling plate or not at this stage. You only need one if the carb mounting base is not level 9within a degree or two anyway)! and you won't be able to tell if that's the case untill the car is almost done and front/rear ride heights are set. You will naturally want to install the engine as low as possible anyway (given an 'acceptable' ammount of 'sump to ground' clearance) and so you will already have as much hood clearance as possible anyway.

Leveling plate is a 5 minute fit and decision can wait till the last minute.

Russ

RE: Levelling Plate for Carb ?

I fitted a leveling plate to my Rover/Sumo install and it did exactly that - Carb now sits perfectly level... Worth spending the few quid extra for.
