Mallory Dual Points

Advice please folks

Building a Pilgrim Sumo III and I am about to spend on a new dizzy for my re-built 3,5ltr RV8,

RPI engineering advise a Mallory dual point kit complete with coil and ballast, are these worth the money? are they easy to set up ? are they easy to maintain ? any advice is welcome.

I do have an old Lucas 'opus' setup but never seen it working and it looks pretty grim, also having spent the dosh on a Weber 500/ JWR offenhauser along with a JE101 cam, I thought it safer / less risk to buy a new dizzy

Regards
Dave

RE: Mallory Dual Points

If you can afford the extra, get the Mallory Unilite - It is infinitely easier to set up and no points to adjust/wear.
Needless to say I bought the dual point (which works fine) but had to buy a dwell meter to set it up properly which cost almost the difference between it and the unilite (I now have a Crane digital multi-spark ignition so points are no longer a problem )

RE: Mallory Dual Points

Go for the Unilite.the extra cost will repay itself in money saved on replacement points over a couple or years.

RE: Mallory Dual Points

I didn't offer thoughts on this last week, because I was at that critical moment of starting the engine for the first time.

Having now done so - first turn of the key, after I'd sorted my wiring errors - I'd like to recommend my Mallory Magnetic. It's ridiculously easy to set up, and just as easy to adjust once we got it all running.
