Idler pulley

I have a Rover V8 from a TVR Chimera, but the fan belt won't fit. The Chimera had power steering, but I don't so the engine supplier removed the pump, not the fan belt has a loop with nothing to go round. the engine is the later type with the surpentine belt.

Does anyone know of a fix for this - shorter belt, fit an idler pulley to replace the one fitted to the power steering pump????

Cheers
Andy

RE: Idler pulley

Andy,

I've just fitted a 5.0L from a Grifith to my DAX.
This is a serpentine without power steering. This has the shorter serpentine belt as fitted. When looking at the front of the engine the alternator sits at the top left and has the tensioner pulley mounted directly below it, the belt goes around the crank and then up to an idler pulley that is mounted on a bracket at the top right on the front of the head. The belt then runs around the water pump pulley (on the back -smooth side- of the belt).

Have a chat with Dom Trickett at TVR-Power - they have a web site.
Alternatively go to your local Land Rover parts department. The Serps are usually the later style 4.6L block and they have the same fittings as the TVR.
Also, RPI have a lot of experience with the Serps. Have a chat with them.

Kirk
