| Weber 500 setup ?? and starting problems Hi it's me again. Finally got the beast fired up, (dumped ballast resistor and fitted optronic ignition). However it eventually started after popping and such then I could rev quite freely ,(sounded great), ticked over a little bit lumpy , when I stopped it however it took quite a few attempts to start again, ie not quite 'catching on all four, anyway eventually after about 3 starts and stops the battery got too flat for any more starts. The plugs were sooty black and both mixture screws are 3 1/2 turns screwed out, surely this means I am too rich?? I tried moving the dizzy when running, (clockwise), and the tick over increased a lot and the running went very smooth, however it would not re-start with the dizzy in this position, I had to turn it back. Any idea's... Regards Steve |

| RE: Weber 500 setup ?? and starting problems Hi Steve, Yep, sounds way too rich. I've just checked mine and both screws are set at 1 1/2 turns out (Which equates to a score of 2.4% CO on my engine when tested). If you haven't got the instruction sheet, here are the set up details: 1. Start the engine and set idle speed to 850RPM by adjusting the idle stop screw (Located on the right hand side of the carb). 2. Adjust the idle mixture screws evenly to obtain the highest engine speed. 3. Repeat steps 1&2 above until 850RPM is the max RPM achievable using the idle screws. 4. Final adjustment is to lean off the mixture by turning both mixture screws half a turn clockwise (theory is that you should now have 1.5-2.0% CO) the engine should then stabilise at appx 800RPM Hope this helps Cheers Jim |
