carbs vs EFI

I was planning to replace the strombergs on my RV8 with a Webber set-up but have recently been offered a full EFI set up, what are your views on this, should i stick with my original idea of Webber's or go the EFI route, and what are the pitfalls with both?:tu

RE: carbs vs EFI

Tony, is that a flapper system or Hot wire. The hot wire is well worth having as you can tune it quite a bit,and inprove the power out put. The flapper system can be tuned, but for any significant power gains it will start to cost you, as you will have to replace the flapper system and get an after market controller.

By the way how is the build going ? will try and pop over sometime but things are really busy at the moment.

RE: carbs vs EFI

Excelent question Martin, not sure, never thought to ask, I came across the system whilst getting quotes for a paint job, I'll make a call tomorrow and find out. By the way, is there an easy way to tell the two systems apart, not too hot on EFI systems!
As far as the build goes, I'm a bit behind schedule, the body is on, the doors are hung, most of the holes are cut for lights etc and my side pipes are arriving tomorrow (friday) from Roger at shinybitz so they'll be fitted on Monday. Drove the cob the other day, no seats etc, quite uncomfortable but very satisfying I'm getting some paint quotes on Monday and expect to book it in for about 4 weeks time to have it sprayed, only trim to go then. At what point in your build did you book your SVA? I don't want to book too early and I don't want to book too late, would like to drive the car to the Exeter show though.
See you soon perhaps,

:tu

RE: carbs vs EFI

Hi Tony, when I booked my test there was about a 4 week wait as it was the busy period at the beginning of the summer. It took about 2 Weeks to get a date through and then I had to phone them to find a convenient day when they had a free booking (3 weeks). I waited until I thought the car was nearly finished till I applied, and then started on the last to do list which just kept growing :} :} :}( partly because I had several people pop around to cast there eye on things) If like me you are going to put it through yourself, this is a highly recommended exercises as other people are far more likely to spot things that you might over look. I would be happy to pop around. By the way I went to derby and would recommend them hight for any AK car but not sure about Pilgrims although the tester Simon was very good and did have a sense of humor which was very reassuring.

RE: carbs vs EFI

Thanks Martin, I'll be sure to take you up on the offer of looking over my cob before SVA in fact I'll be asking lots of people to view as I know I'll have a "blinkered" view of how excellent its looking!!!!!!!
Ali and I will be at Donnington on the Sunday to help support the meet and to make a few purchases, I obviously wont have my sumo but we'll be there.

See you all then :tu
