| East Anglia Region - Newsletter June 2005 Hi all, Whilst you were enjoying your drive and subsequent lunch at The Chequers, Thompson for May’s meet, you may have noticed that Steve and I were absent. That’s because, whilst you were looking under bonnets, talking about camshafts and tucking into your roast beef; we were diving with whale sharks, hammerheads and turtles around 30 metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean. We had decided to get away from it all and spent 8 days on a dive boat in and around the Maldives. However, whilst we were away, David Horsnell had a satisfying visit to a rolling road with his re-engined Sumo and Mark Bright et al. thoroughly scared themselves at a track day at Snetterton. As its June, it’s time for the world’s greatest motor race again. This Wednesday 15th, 18 of our region will be up with the lark and will start their journey to Le Mans for the 24 Hours of Le Mans Sportscar racing / 5 day party. I’ll be staying at home working hard and doing the ironing! And counting the days to my first glass of wine to break my drinking detox month. Apparently, this year (to the chagrin of the gendarmes), instead of hammering down the French motorways to their destination they are using a scenic, cross country route and enjoying a bit of civilised site seeing before arriving at the usual campsite for the usual beer and burnt food fest! Hopefully they’ll have a good time and I’ll look forward to their update so that I can pass it on to you next month. I’ve received some information about the Lavenham Rare Breeds Car Show which is held this year on August 29th. We’ve generally had an impressive showing of cars at this very popular local show. I hope that this well organised and supported car show benefits from your attendance this year. It’s nice that a local show hasn’t succumbed to the commercialisation and corporate event type atmosphere that plagues other shows in the region. If you want to attend this event then please e-mail your name, address, registration, and car details to the organiser, Bryan Panton at "bryan.panton@virgin.net" . And don’t forget to mention that you are part of the East Anglian Cobra Replica Club. For this month’s Sunday meet, on Sunday 19th June (which is Father’s Day by the way), we’re planning a reverse ‘meet up / convoy / run to another pub’. Were intending to start the meeting at the pub, have some lunch and a chat. Then, after being suitably refreshed, we’re intending to drive out to the coast. I’ll be in the Pontiac as Steve has my “other” car! So, this month, I suggest we visit the Seal in Woodbridge, east Suffolk at 12:00 and eat early. Later on, if you want to, we’ll run out to Orford (and maybe visit the castle) or elsewhere if there are any other suggestions, such as Shingle Street, Aldeburgh etc. The Seal is off the northern end of the A12 dual carriage way from Ipswich on the B1438 Ipswich Road into Woodbridge. Their phone number is 01394 445091. Don’t forget those Father’s Day cards or you’ll be in trouble! Here’s the list of East Anglian meets for 2005.
