Le Classic 2008 Ferries

I know this may be a bit premature but what's the score with ferry bookings with the classic? I seem to remember that the last few times there's been a block booking of some sort and a load of cars going over together. Or is it a case of just deciding on a ferry crossing and everyone booking independently? I wouldn't want to miss out on being part of a convoy of cob's roaring off the ferry in France

A mate of mine goes to the 24 hour every year and books the whole lot 12 months in advance to avoid disappointment with camping and ferry etc.

Hi Kev,

I think one of the best bits about this trip is the convoy down. There just happens to be some sort of racing event at the other end.

I seem to remember that ferry tickets weren't sorted out until February. I imagine it will be on a lot of folks mind and it wont be forgotten about.
I should have referred to Andy' post before replying. I know he sorted out our tickets the last time.

I hope he doesn't mind my mentioning his name.

BTW, Newhaven/Dieppe were £60 rtn including a cabin on the way there

Without a cabin it was £40 return (bargain)

I looked at the Transmanche site the other day and as last time the 2008 schedules are not yet available, I think it was around december time they appear?

When I tried I couldn't get any decent discount from Brittany Ferries even offering them a block booking.

Even taking in to account the extra gas from South Wales to Newhaven I was still quids in.

Thanks Paul/Kev, thought it might be a bit premature. From what I remember reading the convoy sounds the business. I bet numerous British plated Cobras don't attract many local traffic cops

Kev I did indeed organise one ferry crossing last time around of which if memory serves me 32 cars took advantage of.
It was the Newhaven / Dieppe crossing and as reported above was the huge sum of £40 return car and 2 people, and an extra £20 for a 4 berth cabin.

I still have the contact at Transmanche and I guess I will be speaking to them in the new year ref a club/ block booking discount.

The only problem is they only have 2 sailings per day one about lunchtime and this year the night crossing left at 1am !

Once I can get the details I will post on here with contact details for those that want to use it.

Most of us in the southeast have in fact decided to go eurotunnel, and take the A roads down on weds returning Monday.

So I will be speaking to Eurotunnel as well.

I went on the tunnel last year for £80 return left Folkstone at 1pm and arrived at Leman at 7pm that evening. Left on the Sunday at around 2pm and was back indoors by 9pm.

Whislt it is a longer drive (about 150 odd miles I think) and more expensive than the ferry most of the guys that I meet up with who had gone on the night crossing ferry were knackered from lack of sleep and getting kicked of the ferry at some stupid time in the morning.

As Andy says most of us are probably going to take in some of the scenery on the way down this time as well. The drive down is IMO one of the best bits of the whole trip so another £100 odd quid on fuel and crossing is well worth it.

Cheers Andy, as long as there's a bit of convoy going on that'll do me

Are you sure you want to be associated with the SE region

I would expect that for those who are coming down we will arrange a meet at J8 of the M20 to then travel down to the tunnel which is about 20 minutes from there.
