| East Anglia Region - Newsletter October 2003 Hi all, Once again, September’s meet was at the Norfolk Mead Hotel in Coltishall which hosted our annual Family Road run and Treasure hunt. And what a great event it was too. The weather provided us with a cloudless sky and warm sun, we had a really good turn out and nobody got particularly lost on the treasure hunt. May I extend our thanks to Chris Wicks for devising the route, Don and Jill Fleming for hosting the event and barbeque and Chris Crane of RPI for providing prizes and access to his V8 knowledge for those that wanted it. Some of the clues for the treasure hunt were quite devious. As I acted as passenger to another car, Steve had Don Fleming as navigator. Don’s local knowledge appears to have helped somewhat as Don and Steve were second placed. This year the first prize went to Chris Ramsbottom. Chris is currently building a Viper cobra and dropped by to see a few finished cars. Needless to say, we cajoled him into taking part in the treasure hunt…..and he went on to win it! Chris will now have the honour (!) of devising next year’s route. We’ve already pencilled in the Norfolk Mead for next year – mark up your diaries. John Tullett is having a garage clearout. He has for sale an Engine Crane with strop and chain, two dolly trolleys with added lift attachments for £150, one Lucas fuel pump (new) for £40, several new Temp senders for £2 each and various odds and sods (mirrors and various bits) that may be useful to those currently building. John can be contacted by e-mail at: Cobravenom@btopenworld.com Andy Soar also has a couple of new Edelbrock 4 barrel carburettors for sale. One is a 500 cfm model, the other a 600 cfm for £230 each. Andy can be contacted on 07909 531816. Have you ever felt that, whether you are still building your car or require modifications to an existing car, you do not have the time, skills or equipment to complete the job? To that end, Andy Soar wishes to announce a new venture. “I have come to the conclusion through talking to many CRC members that there are often aspects of their cars that they would like to improve but they often lack time or equipment or just don’t have the experience. I have good workshop facilities and a great deal of experience in poking around under kit cars and with Ivor, my brother-in-law to be, can offer a complete range of skills to complement this market. Ivor has many contacts for American parts and actually enjoys playing with fibreglass!! I have experience of suspension and chassis modifications and set-up so if this aspect of your build is worrying you then give me a call. Other services include; tyre fitment and balancing, engine refurbishment, exhaust fabrication, shot blasting and hot zinc spraying. We are also able to offer a full vehicle electric service to solve those gremlins. From basic service and MOT work to a full build service we will promise not to rob you and give you the best service in East Anglia! Located in Bressingham, Norfolk. Call Andrew Soar on 07909 531 816 or e-mail andrewsoar@yahoo.com” …..and so, to this month’s meet on Sunday 19th October at 12:00 at the Ramsholt Arms, Ramsholt, east Suffolk. Ramsholt is on the east bank of the River Deben opposite Waldringfield (June’s meet). You should drive to Woodbridge / Melton and then take the B1083 towards Bawdsey. My scout, John Tullett, says take the 1st right after Shottisham and then second right to the waterside and you are there. This is Dock Road. Steve and I will be on the other side of the world at the time of the meet, so we will be there in spirit. In light of this, I would suggest that if you want to have lunch, you book directly with the pub. The Ramsholt Arms’ phone number is 01394 411229 or http://www.ramsholtarms.co.uk/. "The Ramsholt Arms in Suffolk is an 18th century former farmhouse, ferry mans cottage and smugglers inn, set on a tidal beach overlooking the river Deben”. I hope you have a good afternoon – don’t fall in the river. We have now confirmed the annual East Anglian Region Christmas meal on Saturday 29th November at 7:30 pm for 8:00 pm at the Chequers Inn in Bressingham just west of Diss on the A1066. The meal is 3 courses with coffee to follow. We have built into the cost bottles of wine on the table and the gratuity. This comes to a cost of £22.00 per head. This saves you worrying about money or additional bills on the night. As Christmas is fast approaching, we need your full payment of £22 per head and your menu choice on the attached form as soon as possible, and no later than 1st November, by post to me. Should anyone require accommodation locally to ‘sleep off’ the effects, please let me know? Poplar Farm, only a short stagger away up the lane to Andy Soar’s parents, in Bressingham, do a very good B&B, ask Mr Tullett. The meal is also when we traditionally dish out the East Anglian CRC awards. Holders from last year should give some thought to this year’s recipients. Here’s the list of East Anglian meets for 2003. November 16th – West Norfolk – Red Lion, Caston November 29th – East Anglian Cobra Club annual Christmas meal December 21st – West Suffolk – White Hart, Boxford We’re now working on 2004’s itinerary. If you have a favourite local pub or a previous one that you think merits a revisit, please let me know. Thanks to all you cobrateers, keep calling, and mailing. Bye for now, Eileen Call me on 01206 863804, or mail me at route66@hot2trot.freeserve.co.uk
