East Anglia Region - Newsletter November 2003

Hi all,
As you know, Steve and I were on the other side of the world for October’s meet, so Colin Hendry kindly deputised. The meet, at the Ramsholt Arms, Ramsholt attracted 7 Cobras plus other non-cobras. John Tullett had a car boot sale and managed to sell some surplus stock, mostly to Andy Soar by all accounts. Phil Ayres was rumoured to have brought his repaired and repainted AK, but Colin didn’t manage to get out of the pub in time to see it! Later, several people decamped to the nearby Sutton Hoo for a walk in the afternoon sunshine and a look at the ancient burial mounds.

We didn’t manage to spot any cobras whilst we were in Australia, we saw some snakes but they were of the slithering type. Car-wise, there seems to be a large quantity of ‘Ute’s’ roaring around the country. These are basically saloon cars with the back cut off and replaced by a pickup style bed. The Aussies love these and most are either Ford Falcons or Holden Commodores (General Motors). You can buy a Holden Commodore SS Ute with a 5.7 litre Chevrolet Corvette engine installed. I had to drag Steve away from the dealers, I could imagine him working out how to import one to the UK – and they’re right hand drive! Alternatively, there’s the Holden Monaro coupe with the same engine installed. This is planned to be officially imported to the UK next year as the Vauxhall Monaro (and the Pontiac GTO in the USA) – my next company car??

Anyway, on to this month’s meet on Sunday 16th October at 12:00 at the Red Lion, Caston, west Norfolk. Caston is to the east of the A1075 Thetford to Watton road or about 6 miles north west of Attleborough on the B1077. The pub is on the Green. As we’ve just got back from holiday and the newsletter is a bit late, I would suggest that if you want to have lunch, you book directly with the pub. Their phone number is 01953 488236 or try http://www.travelpublishing.co.uk/Hi...k/hea17527.htm
We’ll see you there….

Failing that, if you have booked, we’ll see you at the annual East Anglian Region Christmas meal on Saturday 29th November. Don’t forget those who won trophies last year, please give some thought to who you wish to present it to this year.

Here are the remnants of the list of East Anglian meets for 2003.
December 21st – West Suffolk – White Hart, Boxford
Plus local (and no so local) car events (so far – more to come)
August 29th 2004 - Seething Charity Air day and Classic Car show – details from Simon Finlay
June 9th to 14th 2004 – Le Mans 24 Hours (East Anglian mega convoy)

We’re now working on 2004’s itinerary. If you have a favourite local pub or a previous one that you think merits a revisit, please let me know. Thanks to Mike Spivey for his suggestions so far.

Thanks to all you cobrateers, keep calling, and mailing.
Bye for now, Eileen Call me on 01206 863804, or mail me at route66@hot2trot.freeserve.co.uk
