East Anglia Region - Newsletter December 2003

Hi all,
December’s here already and we can all agree that 2003 has been a good cobra year. Many club members have completed and SVA’d their cars during the year, I had an e-mail from David Horsnell a couple of weeks ago announcing his Sumo is now complete and roadworthy. Others have carried out modifications or rebuilds of their existing cars. New members continue to come to our meetings and subsequently start building a cobra, Andrew Howell starting building a Dax this autumn.
Our calendar was pretty much completed with November’s meet at the Red Lion, Caston and our annual East Anglian Region Christmas meal.
The Red Lion turned out to be a very cosy, friendly pub and we just about filled it and the car park. Even though the weather was ‘chilly’, we still had 9 cobras appear without roofs and John Tullett made the journey on his classic Norton motorcycle.
The Christmas meal was another successful evening, with a roomful of cobrateers complete with party hats and festive cheer.
As is traditional, the meal was followed by our prize giving. This year, the Ten Tenths Trophy was awarded to Simon Finlay. We decided that Simon had, effectively, acted as a roving ambassador for our region. He has attended and figured highly in this years and previous years national events and also involved our region in other east Anglian car shows and charity events.
The Long Distance award was ‘modified’ by last year’s winner, Andy Soar, to feature a clock within the speedo display. Time was an important factor in this year’s winner, Cefin Mobbs, completing, testing, registering and running in his GD427 prior to setting off for Le Mans. All that in addition to the stress all that gave him!

Anyway, on to this month’s meet (and a CHANGE of venue) on Sunday 21st December at 12:00 at the Beagle, Sproughton, just to the west of Ipswich. We had previously planned to go to Boxford for December, but as we’re so close to Christmas, the pub will only serve pre-booked Christmas meals. The Beagle, however, has a large menu and ample seating so we should be able to have a better choice. Sproughton is on the B1113, accessible from the A14. The pub is just south of the village by the A1071 roundabout down behind the Holiday Inn.

Well, that’s another year gone by. Again, I hope you enjoyed the various meet venues, barbeques, treasure hunts and car shows we’ve been to.
It struck me the other day (in a moment of deep contemplation) that I have been the East Anglian Region rep since March 2000 and you all may be a bit jaded by my ramblings and chat now after nearly 4 years.
Therefore, if anyone in the region feels they wish to inject a new or different, spark, please let me know and I will happily pass along the baton.

Anyway, for now, Steve and I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a very boozy New Year and we will see you in January.

Thanks to all you cobrateers, keep calling, and mailing.
Bye for now, Eileen Call me on 01206 863804, or mail me at route66@hot2trot.freeserve.co.uk
