East Anglia Region - Newsletter June 2004

Hi all,
Whilst you were all at the Pier Hotel, Gorleston on Sea, east Norfolk enjoying May’s meet, you may have noticed that Steve and I were absent. That’s because, whilst you were tucking into your Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, we were swimming around 25 metres below the surface of the Red Sea marvelling at the corals and sea life during our scuba diving holiday in Sinai.
So, as I haven’t any other details about what happened at the meet, and can’t give you any, I can say that we had a wonderful holiday and were reluctant to come home to the considerably cooler weather!

Fortunately, the weather has been improving since then and Steve has just arrived back this evening from a lovely day of sun and warmth at the National Cobra Replica Club Day at Rockingham Raceway during the ‘Days of Thunder’ race meeting in Northamptonshire near Kettering.
Our convoy of 12 cars set off from Bury St. Edmunds and had a pleasant pootle along the A14 to Rockingham.
The ‘Days of Thunder’ US style stock car racing was an interesting attraction and the day was topped by a very pleasant picnic partaken amongst the cobras.

As its June, it’s time for the world’s greatest motor race again. This Wednesday 9th, 20 of our region will be up with the lark and will set off south to France and to Le Mans for the 24 Hours of Le Mans Sportscar racing / 5 day party, whilst I’m staying home looking after the chickens. Steve has strongly persuaded me not to accompany him due to the fact I’ll be dreadfully bored. This has nothing to do with the fact that June is the month I abstain from Alcohol for a month, and the group in France appears to drink from Wednesday through Sunday Evening. Sitting around nursing my lemonade whilst the rest of the gang have a truly wonderful time doesn’t appeal to me at all. I'm quite looking forward to cleaning out the chickens instead, and sunbathing in the English warmth.
So I’ll wish them all a safe journey and have a damn good time, but Steve, please don’t buy any more t-shirts!

I’ve received some information about the Lavenham Rare Breeds Car Show on August 30th. In previous years, we’ve had a good showing at this very popular local show. I hope you’ll agree that this well organised and supported car show is worth going to again this year.
Should you wish to attend, please e-mail your name, address, registration, and car details to the organiser, Bryan Panton at bryan.panton@virgin.net . Please mention that you are part of the East Anglian Cobra Replica Club.

I’ve got a personal request now. I’m on the search for some Ginger kittens – 2 or 3 to add to my brood. I have 2 ginger cats already who are getting on a bit, and the rest of their cousins in the family have died of old age in the last 2 years – so it’s time for us to get some more. So if you or someone you know has any ginger toms looking for a good home, a big garden and the added bonus of no kids to torment them, please give me a call. Thank you in advance.

This month’s local cobra meet is on Sunday 20th June at 12:00 at The Victoria, Felixstowe Ferry, east Suffolk. Felixstowe Ferry is at the mouth of the River Deben at the bottom of the A14 beyond Felixstowe. Follow the signs through the town.
As usual, let me know if you’ll be eating by the Thursday before the meet so that I can notify numbers to the pub, as they require confirmation.
Please note, this Sunday is Father’s Day so the pub will probably get busy. However, it’s close to the seaside so bring your bucket and spade.

Here’s the list of East Anglian meets for 2004.
