| East Anglia Region - Newsletter October 2004 Hi all, Unfortunately, Steve and I were otherwise detained for September’s meet. In fact, we were 30 metres below the surface of the Red Sea scuba diving, admiring the coral, the sea life, and the wrecks and then soaking up the 30 degree C plus sun when we had surfaced. However, you were all enjoying the English weather at our annual Family Road run and Treasure hunt at, and around the area of the Norfolk Mead Hotel, Coltishall. May I give my thanks to Don and Jill Fleming for again extending their warm hospitality to us and to Chris Ramsbottom for providing the route. Also, Chris Crane from RPI Engineering again kindly provided some prizes and T-Shirts. I understand Don’s son won the treasure hunt (after a bit of re-engineering to the clutch system in the car park). Local knowledge seems to be a benefit; we know who’ll be compiling the route next year! Otherwise, it’s been a fairly quiet cobra month. We missed the Dax Autumn Open Day as I have been busy jam and chutney making and Steve is currently fiddling about with the Dax prior to the MOT. We’re trying to sort out a calendar of meets for 2005. We’ll stay with the popular barbeques, treasure hunt, Christmas meal, Le Mans and visits to show and events. However, if you fancy something different or know of a pub or event worth going to, please let me know. It’s your club after all. We have now confirmed the annual East Anglian Region Christmas meal on Saturday 27th November at 7:30 pm for 8:00 pm at the Chequers Inn in Bressingham just west of Diss on the A1066. (Note – not the 4th December as previously noted). The meal is 3 courses with coffee to follow. We have built into the cost bottles of wine on the table and the gratuity. Last year, this comes to a cost of £22.00 per head. This saves you worrying about money or additional bills on the night. Should the cost have gone up, I will let you know. I have not, as yet, received the menus. Therefore, as Christmas is fast approaching, we need your full payment of £22 per head as soon as possible and no later than 1st November please, by post to me. Once I know the menu choices, I will contact those that have booked to discuss and take your order. Does anyone require accommodation locally to ‘sleep off’ the effects? Poplar Farm, only a short stagger away up the lane to Andy Soar’s parents, in Bressingham, do a very good B&B, ask Mr Tullett. The farm is on 01379 687261. The meal is also when we traditionally dish out the East Anglian CRC awards. Holders from last year should give some thought to this year’s recipients (and bring the awards along on the night). …..and so, to this month’s meet on Sunday 17th October at 12:00 The Swan, Hoxne, east Suffolk. Hoxne is on the B1118, 3 miles east of the A140 and Diss. The Swan is a 15th century building with beams and a high ceiling, a good restaurant and a fine choice of ales. I’ve not reserved any space, but the pub is on 01379 668275. Here’s the list of the remaining East Anglian meets for 2004. November 21st – West Norfolk – The Fox Inn, Garboldisham November 27th – CRC East Anglian annual Christmas meal December 19th – West Suffolk - White Hart, Boxford Thanks to all you cobrateers, keep calling, and mailing. Bye for now, Eileen Call me on 01206 863804, or mail me at "route66@pgen.net"
