| East Anglia Region - Newsletter December 2004 Hi all, Once again, another year has been and gone. Although we were not blessed with as good weather this year as last, that didn’t seem to stop plenty of cobras hitting the East Anglian streets. Again, there have been a number of cars completed this year and congratulations to those who have spent so much time in the garage. Also, new members continue to come to our meets and subsequently start building a cobra, whilst others continue to adapt and modify their existing cars (mine included). Hopefully you have enjoyed the various meets and events this year; certainly our annual pilgrimage to Le Mans seems to grow each year. November’s meet at the Fox Inn, Garboldisham was very popular, despite it being a cold, damp day. Those brave souls were able to huddle around the log fire, tuck into the carvery and enjoy a good pint. Steve braved the journey topless (but wore a coat!) and we were joined by a brace of ’32 Ford hot rods, one with a period Flathead engine. Later, a number of us dropped by Andy Soar’s workshop to have a look at his third! Cobra – another unstarted KD 289 project, what a masochist. At the end of November, we had our Christmas meal, at the Chequers in Bressingham as last year. There was much discussion of what we could get up to in 2005. A good suggestion for meets was that we could rendezvous at one location and then cruise to another (pub) as a group. Other plans included combining our meet with that of another club (hot rod, classic car etc). As is traditional, the meal was followed by our prize giving. The recipients of the awards last year nominated the next year’s winner. This year, the Ten Tenths Trophy was awarded to Steve Brown by Simon Finlay. Simon said that Steve had, as well as being ‘prominent’ at the majority of our meets, also taken a leading role in arranging and co-ordinating various events outside of our region. The Long Distance Award was this year awarded to Chris Ramsbottom by Cefin Mobbs. Cefin decided that Chris showed a great deal of dedication and will power beyond the norm in his continuing Viper build. …..and so, to this month’s meet, the last of 2004, on Sunday 19th December at 12:00 The White Hart, Boxford, west Suffolk. Boxford is just off the A1071 Ipswich to Sudbury road. The pub is in the centre of the village. I understand the pub may be only serving pre-booked Christmas meals, but we can have a festive drink and maybe pop across the road to the Fleece. We’ll see you there; it’ll be your chance to give your car the last blast of the year. Anyway, for now, Steve and I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a boozy New Year and we will see you in January. Thanks to all you cobrateers, keep calling, and mailing. Bye for now, Eileen Call me on 01206 863804, or mail me at "route66@pgen.net"
