Re: pop ups

If pop ups are appearing that often it sounds like he has picked up a virus or worm from somewhere. All good quality virus scanning software should be able to find it delete it. If you can download a free virus scanner and it finds you have one, then visit Sophos anti virus web site as they put full descriptions on their web page and possible solutions for their removal.

Re: pop ups

I'd download and install Microsofts Anti Spyware tool. You'd be surprised how much kak your system can build up without it.

Re: pop ups

In addition to the suggestions above you could try AdAware from www.lavasoft.com and its free as well.

Disable "Messenger" in your tray, this will stop it as they use this programme

Re: pop ups

Run a two or three spyware progs as this sounds like spyware! Popup blockers will work but will slow your computer a little while it tries to stop each popup and they could just keep coming quicker until its so busy stoping popups that your PC freezes.
Eliminate the cause and dont mask the problem.:thumb:

Re: pop ups

Make sure you are using a firewall such as Zonealarm (freeware) and then run either Spybot or Adaware (as already suggested) This is not online software, so you schedule a scan and then clean out all the crap. Would also recommend a cache cleaner (CCleaner) which will also then clear out a lot of the tmp and other downloaded internet files freeing up a bit space. Then make sure you've defragged the disk....
