Googe desktop

Has anybody downloaded this, it looks good and I can probably find a good use for it as I can never find anything on my machine. :thumb: :thumb:

Re: Googe desktop

Personally I avoid such things since they often "take over" your PC and work their way into things you would prefer they didn't, plus enable an avalanche of advertising to hit you. Installing Real Player, for example - disable every damm thing they suggest you should enable.

JMHO of course.

Re: Googe desktop

There have been and still are some concerns over the privacy issues with the Google Desktop. Google Desktop Search allows users to opt out of sending the company back detailed usage data, but it isn't possible to firewall it completely.

Re: Googe desktop

Im tending to agree with Wilf on that Mike, I usually download alot of things and it incurs nothing but spam and annoying pop ups.

See you saturday

Re: Googe desktop

Seconded, Although google is fairly trusted, compared to other companies that make such programs, I would leave alone. There is still the fact that it must install quite deep for it to do what it says so you probably wount get rid of all of it if you dont like it.
I would avoid it and just try to file things in a more logical fashion. I personaly dont have a screen full of icons, I have the usual like IE, mail and a few folders that branch of to subfolders. e.g Pics, Vids, downloads, Accounts, Temp.
Things like this always have security issues. And any toolbar or such could be spyware or have spyware properties included. :thumb:

Re: Googe desktop

Get Linux, multiple desktops, that you can sort into moods eg video editing, music, p##n etc. And it is not a Bill Gits product .
Steer clear of all them search bars, free screensavers etc. Simple is best.

Re: Googe desktop

Hi Mike
Go for the 'open circulation, FREE', link from this site.
Bearing in mind, this is a replacement for windows, not just an application in windows. I have a CD of it, but it will take a few dats to find.
Download is close to 1Gb in size.
You can have linus and windows on the same pc, in a 'dual boot' arrangement eg chose which one you want to run when the pc starts.
Phone me if you are unsure.
Cheers
