In which case that's a pass, are you sure the figures are the right way round? if you showed 70 on the clock and 73 in reality that would be a fail???

But either way I think the only quicker route would be with an electronic setup but that would be an expensive solution.

Rgds

Re: Speedo needs Recalibrating & quick!!

Correct me if im wrong but as long as the speedo is over reading no more than 5 percent then its a pass. I thought speedos could over read slightly but not under read as when mine was tested I was told it shows 72 at the the tested 70 mark.

Dave. Not a stupid question, But what size tyres are you running on the rear? It might be possible to borrow some slightly smaller ones to get it through the retest

225x55x16 Proxes, but the tester made special note of all tyre makes and sizes so surely would notice any "change" when re-tested ?
I tried lowering the rear pressures from 32 to 20psi but this didnt make any significant difference when paced by a friend.

Re: Speedo needs Recalibrating & quick!!

I think you'll find he was just noting the speed rating as per your advised top speed. I failed on rim overhang on the rears (245/55 x16 proxes on 9.5" rims) Took it back with baldish 205/55 x 15's on 8 x 15 rims (stupidly inside the arches) and he only checked the failed items, Ie overhang. If you can blag a couple of 225/50 x 16 tyres with the right speed rating you should be OK :thumb: Tread depth is irrelavent

PS 20-21 psi would be a better pressure long term :thumb:

How high have you pumped up your tyres at most they should be 24psi :thumb: mine are 21psi and I know some who run at 19psi

Definatly sounds like he described it wrong, you can over read (I think by as much as 10% ) but NEVER under read. Are you sure he didn't mean you could show 70 on your clock if it was 59 on his?

If he really means yours can show 59 for 70 on his then he is wrong and needs to re-train!

If you really are under reading then slightly smaller tyres / wheels should solve it.

Re: Speedo needs Recalibrating & quick!!

Well, actually, mine passed SVA a few weeks back with the same problem, only in my favour. The printout showed that my speedo was showing 30 at an actual 35. Tester (Norwich) said this was within limits - and that if it had been the other way round it would have been an automatic fail! Seems completely daft to me...
