Digital pics to TV?

Hi,
I have a Fuji digital camera and a Sony DVD player.
I am familiar with writing pics downloaded from the camera to the PC and then onto a CDR.
Is there any way that i can do this so that I can view the pics on Tv using the DVD player (not the one on the PC).
This would be jolly good if it can be done. Currently such a disc is not recognised by the DVD and does not play.
The camera is 3 years old and I'm thinking about a new one, so if what I want to do cannot be done with the current equipment, when I upgrade what do I need to get?
Thanks, I'm sure one of you has the answer,
Keith S

Keith,

Check the specs on your DVD player, if it supports VCD (video CD) then your laughing :thumb: just burn the CD in VCD format on your PC and bob's your uncle.

Cheers

Jim

As Jim says you can burn the CD in VCD format from the likes of NERO burning ROM et al or alternatively just create a filesystem of the CD. It'll depend on how old you DVD player is whether or not it'll cope with VCD or filesystem. A lot of the old and expensive models don't and the new cheapo ones do - IRONIC!

Re: Digital pics to TV?

Might be talking through my ar*e, but can't they be burnt directly onto a DVD instead of a CD.

Re: Digital pics to TV?

I made it easy and bought a Dreambox. It’s a Linux based STB (set-top-box). I mainly use it as the receiver for digital dish TV but additional functionality can be added as plug-in modules. I store all my digital photos on a Linux server (a hidden headless machine in one of my closets) and I have made a CIFS share on it for media like photos, MP3 files etc. I then use plug-ins like Picture Viewer to view photos or Jukebox to listen to MP3-files etc. The Dreambox is connected to my TV and Projector trough a buffered AV-receiver making it possible to switch between different sources and to split the video signal in two without degrading video quality. The Dreambox is also connected to the Internet to download updated software, plug-ins, EPG (electronic program guide) XMLTV data etc.

Viewing pictures on a 100” screen or TV is as easy as to upload photos to media server and then use the Dreambox to send them to the projector. Easy work flow both for storage and viewing!

Ps. The Dreambox also got inbuilt ATA interface making it possible to attach a normal PC hard drive. I got a 200GB drive in mine and it is capable of storing around 100 hours of live TV. A mounted drive (internal or over the network) makes it possible not only to record as to a VCR (but with live TV quality) but also to time shift (pause TV). Oh, did I also mention the Web interface making it possible to stream live TV or recordings to other units (e.g. a PC) over the network!

More about the Dreambox...

Re: Digital pics to TV?

Very good, but to the lay man, you might well have typed it in Swedish, I would have probably understood it easier. :thumb:

Re: Digital pics to TV?

I guess it depends on whether he wants to spend 20p saving the files to a new cd under a different file type, or £700 on hardware...
Personally, Id try the file save route, or go and buy a new DVD player from Tescos for £19.95 that plays everything..
Sometimes there is a simple and cheap answer!!

Yae, just like it depends if you want to save some money on transportation and buy a cheap and not so powerful Scoda compared to invest in a better and funnier life buying and building a Cobra...

Sometimes the anser is not so simple and absolutely not cheap!!

Re: Digital pics to TV?

Thanks for the info Guys.
I have the instruction book for the Sony DVD (the machine is 2 years old), it says it will play CD-R's and CD-RW's if they are in video CD format.
How do I burn the pics to the Cd in CD video format. I am using Windows XP,
Thanks,
Keith

Re: Digital pics to TV?

Keith

You will need additional software like Nero Burning Suite 6 or I think they have just released version 7.
