Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger Help.

When I was away my wife could not access the internet via Internet Explorer so my son downloaded Mozilla Firefox.

All is now fine but now MSN Messenger doesn't work.

She is running XP on a laptop.

Any clues on what to do please???

Re: Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger Help.

MSN uses IE's connection settings, so open up IE, go to 'Tools' menu, pull down to Internet Options and click on the Connections tab.

If you're on broadband then the 'Never dial a connection' radio button should be selected, for dialup the 'dial my default connection...' should be pressed.

check your LAN settings at the bottom too - you should not have any boxes ticked.

this _shoud_ allow IE and MSN Messenger to work

HTH

Re: Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger Help.

copied from msn help site - try this...

----
an't sign in because of MSN Messenger connection settings
If you can't sign in to MSN Messenger, the connection settings (Settings associated with your Internet connection.) in MSN Messenger might be preventing you from connecting to the Microsoft Passport Network or Microsoft .NET Messenger Service. The MSN Messenger Connection TroubleShooter can often find and fix these problems. The Connection TroubleShooter starts automatically if MSN Messenger encounters a connection problem. If you choose not to use the Connection TroubleShooter, or it does not solve your connection problem, try the following:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options. (If the menu bar doesn't appear at the top of the conversation window, the window frame may be hidden. Click in the upper left corner of the window, or press ALT to restore it.)
  2. In the left pane, click Connection.
  3. Under Connection Settings, click Advanced Settings.
  4. In the Settings dialog box, click Test in the HTTP Proxy section. The test results will appear in the Connection Tester dialog box.
  5. Click OK after the test finishes.
  6. Optional: Let MSN Messenger log your sign-in process for better troubleshooting. You can use the connection log to troubleshoot your MSN connection problem. (This is very helpful to have should you need to contact Customer Support.)
Under MSN Messenger Settings, select the Save a log of my server connections to help troubleshoot connection problems check box.
  7. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  8. Try signing in to MSN Messenger again.
  9. If you still can't sign in:
