Which is best?

not engines or kits this time...

Intel or AMD?

it is time for a new PC, do I go for Intel or AMD?

(used for: some programming/maybe a little video editing and gaming)

Re: Which is best?

AMD, without a shadow of a doubt. Better prices, better benchmarks, end of discussion.
Whereas the Ford / Chevy debate, that is another matter .

Re: Which is best?

Go for the AMD 64 3.0GHz or higher processor. Coupled to a Asus motherboard and you are onto a winner. Are you looking to get it built or buy from one of the high street pirates?
If you are going high street, steer clear of emachines, packard bell, or any of those 'home brands'. Dell are good for mail order, but only come in intel.
All these opinions are from my own proffessional experience and my own opinion.
If you need any help you can pm me if you like.
Cheers

Re: Which is best?

I can't compare, because I've allways had AMD, which have been trouble free.

My latest is an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ with an Asus A8V deluxe motherboard.

I've allways had my computers from Mesh, the hardware has never let me down yet.

Whilst on the subject Kev, what do you reckon to Sony Vaio laptops.

Re: Which is best?

Depends what you want to do with it.

AMD is good for general office type applications but dont be fooled by the clock speed as they measure it different from Intel and its a bit of a con, also the FPU on it is not as good as the Intel, but the chip it cheaper.

Intel is better for gaming and graphical type stuff. If you do much converting video etc you will notice a considerable speed increase with an Intel.

Intels also run cooler than AMD's and have more protection in them to stop them overcooking.

In the end the Intel is more expensive for a reason and your not just paying for the name.

Hope this helps
