Hard Drive Problem

When I boot up my desktop the hard drive has startedd to make a funny noise, it beeps and clicks almost like a relay actuating. Eventually I get a warning saying F3 disk error press f1 to resume.

When I press f1 it says to reboot the system. I put the recovery disc supplied with the system into the cd drive but it tries to boot up from the floppy drive.

How do I swap the boot drive selection? Any ideas if this is the right course of action? Will I lose everything?

Ta

Neil

P.S. Thank heavens for the emergency laptop to keep my Ebay and Cobraclub addiction alive!

Re: Hard Drive Problem

Hi Neil, I had a similar problem with my last desk top which I used for business. The solution I discovered was to belt the tower as soon as it started making funny noises. Worked a treat for years. I think the problem was the disc sticking & the bang freed it.
Good luck,
Clive.

Neil,

Boot up sequence is selected in BIOS, (Press DEL or F1 or various others displayed during POST sequence).

This could work, or it could cause the heads to crash into the platters and destroy your drive, i.d on balance probably avoid it! Actually, thinking about it now, banging the tower while the drives was still spinning was exactly how I knackered my last HDD.
