Surround Sound

Don't get old, you can't get your head around all this new technology.

Anyway, help is required before I go and spend/waste money on cables I don't need.

Got a new LCD TV last week, got it all connected to Sky box and DVD recorder/player via AV1 and AV2 scart leads, everything works just how it should, now the problem is, I've just bought a DVD surround sound system, I see it can be connected via scart or component. I've only got two scart connections on the TV, which are both in use and one on the surround system, if I connect via component will it pick it up automatically with the AV connections in use, as I see on the TV menu that you have to select the input source.

If I change at the moment from AV to component, I don't get a TV signal.

I don't know if this makes sense, it sure doesn't to me.

I am not too sure Mike but would it not be an idea to connect the surround system through the sky box or dvd player, they shoud have 2 scarts on the back.

Buy a second TV - problem solved.

That's one of the problems, I have AV1 on the TV connected to the Sat box, AV2 on the TV to DVD recorder, then a scart lead linking Sat Box and DVD, so I have no scart connection free, there is only one scart connection on the surround sound system.

Haven't tried yet, had it connected like this on my old TV, so I just plugged them back in the new TV as was, I seem to remember having some sort of problem recording from TV or Sat without a lead connecting them together.

component normally means selecting your output on the tv im afraid, and dont forget that no audio is sent through component but you do get a superior picture compared with scart

do you not have HDMI , if its a new system ?

you can allways get a splitter for your scart leads ( 2 scarts one end 1 scart out the other) .

splitter

B&Q sell splitters which enable you to plug 3 scart leads into one scart socket for about £10

Anthony (Chimera) phoned me after he saw my post, I now think I've got my head round it, easy really, just connect the surround sound to my TV with composite and audio cables and just change the TV to composite when I want to watch DVD's through the DVD player in the surround unit.

We shall see when I get some cables.

Indeed mike. Internally mute the TV then put audio cables from TV audio out to surround audio in. And your component lead from DVD player to tv.

Just select what source for your picture on the TV and what source on your surround system (processor) for sound and job done.

I have some high quality gold leads if you need them, I recently changed all my composite ones for HDMI leads. Think my composite cables were about £100 each but your welcome to a discount if your after a high quality lead. Trust me it really does make a difference from the £2.99 JVC rubbish you can get
