Hi Mike
It was nice meeting you aswell, you made us both feel very welcome.
Your serial ATA drive seems not to have a power connector to it.
The 100Gb IDE drive will be fine connecting to the 4 terminal power plug and with the 40/80 pin 'ribbon' cable into either IDE channel on the motherboard.
If you are lucky, when the pc boots up you will see on the 'dos' screens, that it will say found '100Gb maxtor/seagate etc' drive.
You can press either F1, F2, esc, or del to get into bios (dependant on motherboard), i suggest you press all four in turn very quickly as pc boots up. There is normally an option that says 'ide devices'. Go through all the menu options and look for 'ide' as a keyword.
If dubious call me on the mobile given previously.
You will know if the hard drive has been detected, because when windows is on the desktop it will say 'found new hardware', then proceed to tell you the make ad model of your 100Gb drive.
In my computer (or windows explorer) the drive may or may not appear. You will need to go into disk management (right click my computer, left click manage) and disk management is in there.

Thanks Kev and sorry to be a pain, the serial ATA has a power connector plugged in next to the other pins, I don't know what the empty pins are.

Anyway I'll give it a try, might phone you later if I get in the dogs do do. :thumb: :thumb:

Seriously, if you want help, just holler (do you not work during daytime either????).
I am installing win98 on a Pentium III, so i have the excuse of checking internet connection on other PCs' in the IT Suite.

Mike, you might not know much about pc's but you're an excellent flower arranger

This 100Gb drive that you are installing. All the programs that were on your old system will 9/10 not just work cos you have transferred the drive with the programs across.
You will need to reinstall all your progs from the various CD's / floppies etc.
Windows is a git of a system that nestles files all over c drive in various folders, so just copying program files directory will not be enough to run progs.
All your data will be fine tho O.
I have access to various s/ware if needed.
