engine swap

What's the procedure for an engine swap in a GD?
I've been offered a GD with a rover engine and would like to put a chevy in it. Is it a big deal?

Never done an engine swap but I suspect the "deal" will be quite large indeed!!!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do,

Pete

Not really, other than the obvious.

Cooling system
Gbox
Engine Mounts, need to be cut off and suitable ones put back on
Engine
Oil Cooler maybe
Propshaft
Depending on the tune of the engine, the exhaut may be OK, but you would need headers.

But you know all this already.

My Son had a toy steering wheel which he used to spin furiously, making loads of go-faster noises, leaning into all the tight corners, perhaps running the government feels a bit like that. You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere.

You could add inlet manifold, carb or EFI and possibly ignition system. (unless this lot is bought as part of a turnkey engine).

Pete

Not really, but it can get more complicated depending on your choice of engine/gearbox combination. I swapped out a rover for an LS + T56 which meant I needed to have some chassis mods done to accomodate the width of the T56 (nothing particularly complex, but then I left the chassis bits with Andy to do )

On paper it will be a walk in the park! In reality.......................another matter altogether. What sort of budget would you have for the swap? After my experience, I would give the RV8 a miss and buy the car you would like. That is assuming the GD you have been offered is not being sold at £6-7k less than expected.
