I always thought the GD Mk III "replicated" the AC 289. These cars were fully built by AC and used the Mk III chassis i.e. coil sprung, but with the 289 engine. They weren't technically "Cobras" and were called the AC 289.

Mk3 coilover, yep.

They did the 427 to widen the appeal, along with the T70.

My Son had a toy steering wheel which he used to spin furiously, making loads of go-faster noises, leaning into all the tight corners, perhaps running the government feels a bit like that. You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere.
