Question GD Handbrake adjustment

Ive mocked up the handbrake and just need a couple of blots to be able to test it fully. Ive had a go with some old ones I had lying around and have manage to get the handbrake to engage. However with the handbrake in the fully applied position and the adjuster nut at handbrake end wound out as far as it will go I can still roll the chassis forward.

To me it looks like I have too much cable, can this be taken up by adjustment at the handbrake calliper?

When I set the callipers up I wound the adjuster screw in until the pads were just backed off of the disc, do I need to adjust again now i have the cable and lever fitted?

Any Help greatly appreciated.

Is this Jag running gear?

What handbrake lever is it?

Craig.

Ignore that, I have just had a look at you blog.

On the Dax setup the cable has an adjuster nut on the outer cable at the handbrake end and one on the inner cable at the same end.

I had to wind the nuts on the outer cable almost to the end of the thread and the one on the inner cable all the way down the thread.

Works OK but not much adjustment left.

Craig.

Cheers Craig, sorry didnt help much there did I!

For anyone else reading its a Jag fly off handbrake (if thats what you call it) on Jag Inboard calliper setup. The cable only has an adjuster nut at the handbrake end and thats wound out as far as it will go.

I know it supposed to be self adjusting but its got a long way to go!

Forgot to mention the caliper adjuster.

They are adjustable as you know by turning the screw under that is held in place by a split pin

It sounds like you have done the right thing by adjusting until tight then backing off a bit. You may find the pads will wear slightly to match the disc once running.

Craig.

Have you got a picture of the handbrake end with the adjuster nut on it?

I had to make a spacer to take up the slack in the cable. It was a temp measure to get through the sva and in reality I think I'll whip out the cable and get it shortened before MOT time. IIRC I found the inner was about 2cm too long.

Red face

Hi Guys,

Ive been speaking to Simon and we think my cable might be too long. I have to wind the adjuster nut at the handbrake end fully out to take up all the slack in the cable. If I dont then the cable just falls out of the handbrake levers. With the nut wound fully out there is nothing holding the cable outer into the handbrake lever!

See pics attached. 1 is handbrake lever end, 2 is calliper end at condition as in 1. 3 is handbrake end when top hat pushed into lever pivot.

Ive emailed Andy to see what he thinks.

Maybe Ive got the wrong cable?
