Number plate light

Hi

When fitting the number plate light to the GD, I understand that the wire has to go through the strengthening ribs in the boot lid. What I am not sure of is how it gets there. Am I right in assuming it passed through the nearside hinge? If thats the case do I drill a hole near the bend of the hinge for the entry point or is there some other method?

Cheers

Martin

I managed to go direct through the boot skin, Hole to hole. I cut part of the loom off in the boot to give a join and plenty to play with free away from the boot. Fed the loom through the hinge as much as needed, then soldered a single wire to the loom, taped and greased the sheathing and eventually fed the single wire to the other hole and slowly pulled. Pics in my blog.
Not quite sure about the ribs, as they are at the sided and the holes are in the middle.

Good luck, not a quick job.

Hi Martin

Yes it goes through the n/s hinge, you need to drill two holes as picture.

I stripped a single wire from a bit 2.5mm twin and earth and used that to fish through the route, then hooked and taped the tail light wire on it and pulled them through. be careful not to pull to hard as it will get trapped inbetween the two skins. It's quite straight forward if you do it in sections from access hole to hole.

Please don't take this as a criticism or a pop at GD (well just a small one then ) But wouldn't it be far simpler if they ran a pair of wires inside the boot lid when they bond the two halves together? It works for other manufacturers.

It's funny you should mention that, I made just that comment at GD when I was in there last week. Suffice to say they've thought about it but never got round to it.
