Rover V8

Hi all,
Could someone advise me as to which of the Rover V8 engines I should avoid if any and which is the best one to go for, i.e Size, year, model, and gearbox ratio etc.

Thanks,

Bruce.

Re: Rover V8

Bruce, all the Rover units are pretty good (3:5 3:9 4:00 4:2 4:6 and above) would possibly avoid the old P6 unit which is prior to 1976 (short reach plugs and rope oil seals)etc, I have just moved from a 3:9 to a 4:6 myself with a very noticeable increase in torque, so I guess if you want to move to-wards Chevy power the bigger the displacement unit with goodies you can get the better, but be warned RV8 tunning bits ain't cheap! Russell Ram is the man to tell you all about Rovers so I expect he will reply on this thread Osgood  :thumb:

Re: Rover V8

Hi Bruce

As Osgood says the bigger the better and avoid early 3.5's as they have small valve heads which are costly to upgrade. There is some comment at http://www.rpiv8.com/engine-4.htm#Check-up about the 3.9 and 4.2 blocks but if you find a good one it will be a better start point than a 3.5. It all comes down to what you want and how much you are prepared to pay for it. You can pick up a 3.5 for next to nothing but will pay conciderably more for a 4.6 if you can find one. Provided you get a sound 3.5 you should be able to bolt on a few bits and take it from 150bhp to 230bhp fairly cheaply but beyond that it will cost you. If you think you will need 350bhp plus I should go for an American engine from the start particularly as the current exchange rate is so good.

Mac
