Re: Forum Rules, time for a reminder

Careful Mike that could get taken the wrong way, would hate to think threatening behaviour could result in a long established valued member such as yourself getting disciplinary action. Maybe the merchandise shop could start selling those finger traps so we can jam our fingers together to implement a gag.

These are not new rules, this is a reminder of how we started and why. :thumb:

Re: Forum Rules, time for a reminder

Robert,
I agree with your sentiment.

seeing how most sensible threads, to which someone is looking for an answer to a problem, seem to end up being taken over by:-
in jokes,
personal attacks- either light hearted or otherwise,
general sarcasm,
And mainly they just get silly.
(of which we are all guilty)

wouldn't it be a good idea to have a chat room on site for this sort of thing.
I have seen other vBulletin sites with chat rooms attached.
Maybe it's a lot of work for you to set up, and we know you have little free time, but if it's possible then some of the moderator volunteers could help run it.

Just a thought,
Rich

Re: Forum Rules, time for a reminder

I’d just like to say that I too fully support Roberts comments & sentiment. I haven’t been using the site much over the last year or so for a couple of main reasons :

1) Now that the car is basically finished (well, sort of…), I no longer need to call very often on the technical experience of other members – this site has served me as a fantastic resource of know-how and practical experience. People have always been very willing to take the time to provide detailed written information and accounts of their own experiences, covering virtually every aspect of Cobra construction – not to mention bucket loads of general encouragement! This has been indispensable, and I can’t praise this aspect highly enough.

2) As a few of you will remember, I like a good debate (argument?!) as much as the next man, and am not offended in the least by the odd (softer) expletive. I really do feel though of late, that virtually half the threads on this site contain far too much gratuitous swearing / toilet humour to the point where it’s just a turn off…… I like a laugh as much as anyone, but a lot of this adolescent c##p is downright tiresome – it also just serves to further reinforce the common ‘Essex Boy’ image that the Cobra fraternity have unfortunately landed themselves with.

3) Worse than (2) above, I’ve noted with dismay that in addition to the overuse of foul language, more and more posts are popping up with a disturbingly bigoted content – some of which would probably find a better home on the British National Party website! Some of this stuff is just downright offensive and has no place at all on the Cobra Club site.

Guys, please can we ‘clean it up a bit’; let’s have a return to what works best - intelligent technical debate and healthy good-humoured topical banter!

My 2p!
Pete.
