IS it a bit cheap?

Guess this could go in the section where we get things off our chest.

Sovereign cars have a GD with a Ford 302 for under £12K, its on a 100% perfect. Still its about my perfect spec. Only thing is is £11,750 a bit low for a GD?

If only I hadnt had that new central heating system last year, I could of brought that now. damn.... I dont mind being cold but the wife started to grumble...!!

Now we wants kids first...bugger!

Back to the drawing board, engine rebuild first it is then. Any tips on rebuilding a Ford 302, i,e where to get as cheap one!!

Andy
Ill get one, one day!

My Son had a toy steering wheel which he used to spin furiously, making loads of go-faster noises, leaning into all the tight corners, perhaps running the government feels a bit like that. You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere.

RE: IS it a bit cheap?

A great site to compare a selection of "shapes" mostly from the same angle. One or two definitely look a bit squat! Is it coincidence that most of the cars at the upper end of the price range are Ford powered?

By that do you mean that people who buy more expensive kits try and fool themselves they have an original by putting something approximating an original engine in?

RE: IS it a bit cheap?

Stuart - I have to say that is a fatuous and silly line of argument. No-one I know thinks they have a "real" cobra when they have built a kit, whatever it's price-pointing or adherence to the original.

It is mainly in the UK/Europe that Chevy engined cobras are commonplace. In the US they are looked down upon as somehow "strange" - don't forget that the US polarises into "Chevy men" and "Ford men". There, a chevy man would have a corvette, not a cobra, and to most Americans, the idea of putting a chevy engine into a cobra is "weird" to say the least.
Here in Europe, that same polarisation does not really exist.

I hope you had your tongue in your cheek when you wrote it. }>

RE: IS it a bit cheap?

Wilf,
tongue was only slightly in cheek
The point I was making was that there should be no reason why engine (brand at least) should relate to price - A chevy is at least as good an engine as a ford (and I have neither!!)
I too look at the US sites, and notice the considerable engine 'snobery' - They should get over the fact that they are _not_ putting a ford in a cobra, they are putting it in an FFR, Superformance, Kirkham, etc... If it was a _real_ cobra however putting a chevy in _would_ be unforgivable!!

So what is the point of insisting you have a ford engine? it is 'correct'?? and it makes the car worth more ??

I suppose on the one hand it's not a replica if it's not as per original, but on the otherhand that is not why many (me at least!!) build them - I'm afraid I'm of the point of view that you shouldn't pretend to be something you are not.
A real Cobra costs $$$$$$$ and there is a reason for it which you will never acheive by having a replica no matter how good it is.
Glass looks like diamonds to some....

Stuart

RE: IS it a bit cheap?

It seems every post these days reduces to one of about 3 or 4 different arguments

Chevy vs Ford
Wilf vs Robert
Exact body shape vs 2mm bigger rear wheel arches
GD Euro vs GD Jag

It is nice to see one of these arguments finally put to bed:

You are either:
Driving a Cobra replica/tribute which although is not an AC Cobra (too many $$), you want to remain as true as possible to the original - ie Ford, Wilf side comes into play
Driving a fantastic looking sports car with exceptional performance which is also a body shaped somewhat, although perhaps not exactly, like an AC Cobra - ie less particular about engine brand, Robert

I think everyone is happy in their own way so can everyone retire to their own corners and put their handbags down

I am awaiting the inevitable torrent of abuse

Cheers

RE: IS it a bit cheap?

Andy

It is a fair price for the car in question.

The car is a 1992 car, with a basic 302 (not tweaked) running an Auto box. The car is in Gelcoat.

Saying that, it has an excellent chassis which can be built upon, so with a bit of money to convert it to a manual and get the roll bar changed, it would be a good car.

A very good starting point to get you on the road.
