american auto/man

Lads can you tell me if the yank engines with auto boxes are a easy conversion to manual boxes ?,Or are thay same as ours which need a complete new crankshaft to convert from auto to manual,Does the yank blocks have a torque converter that can be unbolted and a flywheel inserted or as i say does it need a crank to suit a manual gearbox ??????????

RE: american auto/man

I think you'll find that the crank itself will be the same in most engines, but to convert from auto to manual will require the removal of the auto flex plate and the fitment of a manual fly wheel.
Also the spigot (pilot) bearing that's pushed into the end of the crank will need to be changed if the auto version has one at all, it's bound to be different to the manual one.
These can be obtained via Real Steel or similar suppliers.
