HEI Dizzy

Investigated timing shift problems over the weekend .
Put new balance weights and springs on the dizzzy - which jammed the advance !

Eventually discovered the inner pick up ring on the shaft was loose !

No wonder the timing goes all over the place.
Rotated it slightly to catch on the shaft and put a thin film of super glue to hold in place.
Started her up with no vacuum and set to 15 deg advancing to 32 deg without vacuum . - spot on
Attached vaccum pipe and engine stopped - too much vacuum at idle !!
(I dont have adjustable vacuum)
Thought - OK I'll run without vacuum while I sort the prob out

Went back sunday morning - everything had changed again !!!
Car wouldnt start at all until I reset dizzy at what looks like 25 deg advance at idle.

Going to buy new dizzy !!!!!

I hope Repower or Real Steel have one in stock !!!!!

( Only good thing is discovering what was cauing the changes in the first place !!!)

Re: HEI Dizzy

Hi, Is your distributor for a Chevy?

I have a spare Pro Form HEI distributor, that has done literally 10 miles. It arrived with my crate engine, but packed up after 10 miles. I never discovered what the problem was, I just installed a brand new one under warranty. I subsequently upgraded the ignition to a MSD unit, which involves removal of the condenser unit. So if you are interested, the unit is for sale with a second condenser unit, which was probably the result of the initial failure, but I havn't tested it.
