Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

Just reinsured with Blackford Bloor because they beat Flux and come recommended.

When I got my quote I disclosed my SP30 3 points - no worries - they sent me the completed proposal form I signed and off we went......only I had a letter today that says they have a conviction on their system that has not been declared on the proposal form. As a result the insurance company want a copy of my license.

I've never had anything like this with HIC, Hill House Hamond or Flux in the past, you tell them all relevant info over the phone and then they complete the proposal form and send it out accordingly.

I suppose the onus was on me to check the form before just signing, but I can't help feeling this will make the insurers suspicious in some way - Anyone else had this because I'm feweling a little paranoid now!!

Considering how marvelous they're supposed to be I can't say this is a good start.

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

At the risk of asking the obvious, Have you got another conviction , other than the one disclosed?

Blimey, if i had to declare every point i'd ever obtained i'd need a calculator! I think at one point i'd almost had more than my age....

(17 years driving, probably averaging 25k miles/year, 30 odd points in total, only 6 at the moment, ALL for speeding at some poxy thing like 40 in a 30, and 17 years no claims (touch wood))

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

Better bloody not have!! No - no other convictions. I had a clean license for 18 years then got nicked by a mobile for 37 in a 30 3 years ago! By rights i shouldn't have a license now with my youthful antics - all a thing of the past now you understand.

I think the tone of Blackford's letter didn't help - a bit on the accusatory side.

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

I was a bit late sending my signed proposal back but sent it off anyway. All of a sudden I get a letter written in quite harsh terms/tone. I called them up to tell them I had sent the form back weeks ago and they started coming with excuses about dead computers etc.. But they also mention that stuff gets filed in notebooks, quote-tables on a whiteboard etc.. they seem a bit disorganized and start sending out heavy letters too quickly I think.
Result was I told them to get their act together in no uncertain terms. Ignore them and the stupid letters.

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

I have been insured with Flux for 15 of the 16 years since I built my car. They also can be prone to very harsh and in my opinion uneccessarily harsh letters ( ie one year, some years ago, I paid my years premium in full in advance but when I wanted to go to Le Mans and wanted European cover they wanted a small additional premium which was ok but they said that if I did not pay within 7 days they would cancel ALL my cover). They say that it is because people do not respond either correctly or timeously to them that they need to take that sort of stance.
I tried BB for a quote this year because they have such good support on this site but I found their admin a bit below par, they failed to respond, blamed their computer system and they offered me no advantage over Flux and therefore I stayed with Flux.
Of course the real proof is in the "making a claim" pudding and fortunately I have not had to test that. One never knows, despite the alleged legal position, whether the broker represents the "insured" or the "insurer".

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

I had letters from Adrian Flux which got up my nose. Took out insurance as I wa near the end of my build and wanted to drive to/from an MOT and SVA. All this was explained twice over the phone and the documents duly received. However there was now a demand for a REGISTRATION NUMBER which obviously I didn't have. Sent letter back completing what I could on their forms (I mean correcting the numerous mistakes including the chassis number) and pointing out that I couldn't give them what didn't yet exist Then I receive a notice to terminate my Insurance! Not a happy bunny:angry:

Over the phone I vented my fury and was told that it is a legal requirement that the Insurers can only issue insurance for a vehicle with no registration number for 30 days. I pointed out in fairly blunt terms that for I wasn't particularly impressed with a firm who purport to specialise in insuring kit cars - they had failed to mention any of this when I obtained or confirmed my quote - and in my view amounts to misrepresentation.

Luckily my SVA retest was booked in 3 days before the termination date set and I had my DVLA inspaection set for the same afternoon. However there may be people out there who would not be able to gat an MOT, SVA (and retest) and DVLA inspection all done within 30 days so BEWARE!

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

Since mine has been driveable, and espescially as we've been out of the country a few times, mine is insured with BB in a 'build up' only cover.

However, they do offer you 8 or 9 days of 'on road' cover based on your chassis number, for no extra premium.

When it's finished, or nearly finished, you can convert the policy to full road cover.

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

Smash - sounds like the DVLA computer has given you somebody else's conviction (probably of the same name - there's a lot of Smashes out there!) - not uncommon and you should get the details from BB and write to the DVLA to get it fixed/the record put straight. From an insurers perspective they have an unenviable job dealing with a load of shysters who do conceal things to get their premiums reduced. Just roll with the harsh tones, it is merely self protection at the first hint of trouble. The way you react is often taken as an indication of whether you have something to hide. Don't overdo the righteous indignation!

Re: Blackford Bloor - admin issues?

i insure with sureterm direct, never had a problem, cheap quotes, friendly staff, always phone back when requested.and they sent a renewal which was actually lower than last year(very rare)

i dont think i would even bother ringing around unless the price goes sky high.
