computer help

Help me please!
My lovely teenager recently downloaded Kazaa on to the PC. The result of which seemed to take over my ageing pentium 3. After removing said programme and as many of the other bits that came with it Microsoft explorer will now not connect to the net.
The broadband modem is working and I can connect using AOL.
I've looked at the connection and settings but nothing seems wrong,I've tried turning off the firewall, still no joy.
I looked in, add remove programs and have version 6 sp1 installed, I thought I'd remove and reinstall this. Initially it prompted me that it could fix any problems itself. i tried that and still no joy. Then i removed it and downloaded from microsoft still no joy.
Any suggestions welcome. (other than kick the teenager out!)
cheers
mike

Re: computer help

Mike,

try typing 'kazaa removal' into Google - there's loads of info there, although steer clear of dodgy looking sites - the first page it brings up looks reasonably safe - I've actually heard of and used some of the sites listed.

Good luck.

Re: computer help

You could try downloading a 30 day trial of PestPatrol from Computer Associates (www.ca.com). This should identify and clear out any remaining programs from Kazaa.

Re: computer help

its a pain in the **** but you may benefit from wiping the system and starting again, providing its practical and you have all the software to re install

Re: computer help

Try "System Restore" from a couple of days before Kazaa was installed.

Re: computer help

I've run spybot, plus adaware. Unfortunately the system restore has stopped working.
i think i've got rid of everything it just seems to be an explorer setup issue.

Re: computer help

Download 'HiJackThis', which reports on and fixes registry entries that have been changed (HiJacked) - the most likely sounding scenario if everything else works but not IE.
